National and Federal Organizations and Job Opportunities

National/Federal organization or communities of practice

The National Education Association-   Members of NEA work on improving quality teaching, increasing student achievement, making schools safer and a better place to learn, for all children.

They believe that partnering with families, communities, and other stakeholders is key to quality public education and student success.

One way this organization is working to improve school safety and a better place for children to learn is through their bully prevention resources/programs.  The resources are available for adults and children.

This organization appealed to me in the fact that they have done a wealth of research on quality and student achievement.  There are NEA organization affiliates all over the country that support preschool through adult learning.  Under the tools and ideas tab, there are lesson plan ideas, classroom management strategies, and articles that give advice and support for teachers and parents.

Under the state affiliates section, you can click on any state and find quick facts regarding education, salary, what areas of education are in demand, and job positions.

National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators- Members are from all across the United States and from countries around the world.  Their purpose is to advocate for improvements in early childhood teacher education, a communication network for early educators, and partners with other national and international organizations interested in early education.

What drew me to this organization was the work they also do with other countries around the world.  Sometimes we need to look at how others are being successful and partner with those programs to assist in improving our own.

Included on the website is books that were published by NAECTE members ranging from technology in the classroom, supporting children with learning difficulties, and even the textbook used in a previous class, Planning and Administering Early Childhood Programs.

Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute- This organization conduct research that can positively change the lives of children, support families, and inform public policy.  The Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute is a community of practice that provides useful and up-to-date information regarding current issues and trends in the education field.  The website provides current projects happening around the country and books and articles to support these projects and research.  This organization also partners with 7 other organizations to build strong support in education.

  1. Hi Amanda,

You have shared great information about national and federal organizations. I would consider a position with Teaching Strategies. They are consultants that we used for our screening tools. I am glad that we are able to provide vital resources to our colleagues to help them in their choices of jobs once we have obtained our Master's degree. Thanks again for sharing.

  2. Amanda,
The information you included on the National Education Association (NEA) was really interesting! It sounds like their ability to take part in a variety of areas in the education field provide the opportunity for proactive support for schools, educators, programs, children, and families. I would really like to see if I can use their research and advocacy for my challenge as a national organization.
I also liked that you included an organization that focuses on the improvement of professionals in the field, as we are the people that implement the quality educational standards set forth for early childhood to young children. It's key that teachers and administrators, leaders of programs, and communities of practice work together on the quality of what we instill, what's working, what's not, and how we can improve. Even understanding what educators around the world are doing in early childhood can give us the ideas to redirection or strengthen our own goals.
The job you posted for a training associate was interesting - I have yet to come across something like this locally, but it's a different aspect of education and preparing others for positions in the field.
    Thanks for sharing - Caitlin

  3. Hi Amanda,
You found some great organizations that are passionate about early childhood education. It helps me realize that their are people out their who are trying to make a difference in our field and that support us as early childhood professionals. The job opportunities look exciting as well. With our experiences and degrees form the masters program we could jump right in but I also see potential to keep learning from these positions.

  5. Hi Amanda,

The National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators is a great resource to have. I had only heard about the National Organization of Education for Young Children. This organization is great for not only educators as it lets individuals download free information on child development issues. Thank you for the resource.
